Epoxy, Polyaspartic, & Polyurea

At Ironclad Coatings we use a sophisticated blend of epoxy, polyaspartic & polyurea compounds to deliver you a floor that looks great and lasts forever. Each compound has pros and cons:

Polyaspartic Coatings

Polyaspartic coatings are an excellent choice for garage floors due to their durability, quick curing times, and resistance to UV rays. They can be applied in a wide range of temperatures and are often ready for foot and vehicle traffic within hours, minimizing garage downtime. Their superior resistance to chemicals, abrasion, and yellowing over time makes them ideal for garages that see regular use. However, polyaspartic coatings tend to be more expensive than epoxy and require professional application to ensure a smooth, long-lasting finish. Polyaspartic performs best as a top coat where it does not yellow from UV rays and provides a solid lasting finish.

Epoxy Coatings

Epoxy coatings provide a tough, long-lasting finish that protects garage floors from oil stains, chemicals, and wear and tear. They adhere well to concrete and offer a clean, glossy appearance that can dramatically improve the look of a garage. Epoxy is also relatively affordable and available in various colors and finishes. However, it takes longer to cure than other options and is more sensitive to moisture and temperature during installation. Epoxy can also yellow or fade over time if the garage is exposed to a lot of sunlight. We exclusively use epoxy as a base coat and never as a top coat.

Polyurea Coatings

Polyurea coatings are known for their extreme durability, fast curing, and high flexibility, making them ideal for high-use garage environments. They form a seamless, waterproof surface that resists impacts, chemicals, and temperature fluctuations. This makes them perfect for garages that double as workshops or see frequent heavy equipment use. While polyurea offers top-tier performance, it is one of the more expensive options and requires specialized equipment and experienced installers to ensure proper application.

Proper Preparation

1.

We grind your concrete garage floor with an industrial level concrete grinder connected to a HEPA certified Industrial Dust Vacuum that mitigates dust expulsion.

2.

We vacuum the floor with our HEPA certified Industrial Dust Vacuum to get any loose dust off and ensure proper adhesion for the base coat.

3.

We use painters tape to block off all the edges of the concrete and prevent spillover onto your walls, driveway, and garage door components.

4.

We are ready for the Base Coat!

01

We mix our custom blend of compounds to a color of your liking and apply the base coat.

02

We spread your chosen flake color into the base coat. You can pick one of our signature colors or a custom blend.

03

We apply a clear polyaspartic top coat that will not yellow, fade or pit.

04

The floor cures for 12 hours before you walk on it and 48 before you drive on it. Its best to leave your garage door open during this time.
